Wind Lane Fishing
Windlanes are the
oil like, calm, slicks that form on the surface of larger
lakes and impoundments.
They can range from just a meter or so wide to many hundreds of meters. Their length can be kilometers long. The calmer, oilier water acts as a food trap and the trout quickly work this out. Sometimes hundreds of both browns and rainbows can be seen sipping from the surface every foot or so. Best times are at sunrise on calmer mornings (this is when midge
fishing is remarkable) but they can occur at any time of the
day and contain other food forms. Although there are often
hundreds of fish to cast to this is tricky and demanding fishing.
We are proud to be able to say that our guiding operation is leading the way in this method of fishing. Our team of guides are masters at catching windlane feeders and if you have never experienced it before, let me tell you, you need to have a go at it at least once in your life with someone who knows what they are doing. On one morning last season one of our guides on a day off caught 45 such fish in the first 5 hours of the day. There is no other form of
fly fishing that we can show you where you are presented with
so many opportunities of catching fish.
