Tailing

Our highland lakes are famous for this form of fishing.

On any calm morning or evening from October to March you can expect to find large brown trout 'grazing' in only inches of water around our lake margins. Often their backs completely out of the water.

For me this is one of the most exciting and challenging forms of fly fishing. The fish are wary and your casting needs to be accurate and gentle. They are feeding sub surface and we often fish with a snail suspended just inches under a dry. They will of course very often take the dry.
