SIMMS Freestone Breathable Stockingfoot waders

New for 2003
American company Simms has just released a high quality breathable wader that retails for less then half the price of some other breathables!

The Freestone waders are a tough 4-layer construction, which instantly puts them a step above other breathable waders of similar price. (Equivalent waders are typically 2 or 3-layer). You should avoid at all costs thistles, gorse and blackberries in any breathable but I can say that these have so far even stood up to the rigours of gorse and thistles (the fish was just that little bit too far!).

The waders are made with "QuadraLam fabric technology" that is designed to absorb and move perspiration away from the body. It is not a Goretex fabric, but in the fifty or so full days I've used these waders, many whilst rowing or walking during late Summer, I have not come out smelly or sweaty even with jeans underneath. My last use of these waders was in the saltwater during June - there was snow on the mountains and even after an hour I was comfortable!

I've relegated my neoprenes to the cupboard and for my money The Freestone's are the best value waders on the market. Breathable's are much easier to get on and off than neoprene's, extremely comfortable and can be rolled in to a small bundle for backpacking. There is a nylon wading belt included, a flip out chest pocket and a lifetime quality guarantee. The Simms Freestone breathable waders retail for $499 and are available from Ross Pullin at the Essential Fly Fisher in Launceston.
