Simon Taylor Winner of The 2001/2002 Tasmanian Fly fishing Championships
Simon grew up in Northern
Tasmania and has been Fly Fishing for 20 years since the age of eight.
Most of his early fishing was on the Northern rivers, in particular the
Meander and Brumby's creek, with regular visits to the Macquarie, South
Esk and other nearby streams.
While at university Simon started to spend more time exploring the central highland lakes. During summer holidays many twelve hour days were spent walking and exploring the "Western Lakes." He built up a valuable in depth knowledge of the area. When not fishing the 'back lakes' Simon was fishing the larger lakes from both boat and shore searching for feeding trout. Simon has represented Australia four times in international Fly Fishing competitions. In 1996 he fished in the World Fly Fishing Championships in the Czech Republic, he was a member of the Oceania team in 1997 and 1998 and the Commonwealth Championships in Australia in 1999 where he won the individual silver medal as part of Australia's gold medal winning team. Recently Simon was the runner up in the 2000 Tasmanian fly fishing championships. Simon has fished for trout throughout Australia, North and South Islands of New Zealand and in Europe where he has learnt many different techniques. He is a trained High School teacher and is able to pass on information with ease.
